BMW Launches New S 1000 RR

BMW Motorrad presented its new S 1000 RR Superbike at the Cologne Intermot Motor Show in Germany this week, as did their WorldSBK counterparts Honda and Kawasaki. The Bavarian manufacturer from Munich, who will be competing in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship with the Althea Racing Team in 2017, again optimized their flagship sport bike.

The new S 1000 RR is Euro4 compliant meaning it adheres to the new strict exhaust emission standards compulsory for all new motorcycles starting in 2017, however it still maintains its previous smaller exhaust pipe which RR fans love, something other manufacturers haven’t been able to do.

The electronics have been updated, seeing the new BMW receive Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) as a standard within the different engine modes: Race, Rain and Sport mode. Going further, BMW have added a Pro riding mode for Slick and User custom mapping, launch control, a pit lane speed limiter and ABS Pro- it’s lean sensitive to assist in front end braking.

Other updates included new colour schemes, seeing BMW pull away from metallic colours in most of the 2017 options. However the Granite Grey colour scheme is something racing fans will enjoy as it features an exclusive metallic black and white design, similar to the WorldSBK racing machines used by Althea BMW Racing Team’s Markus Reiterberger and Jordi Torres. And finally BMW’s S 1000 RR now comes standard as a single seat model, making the street bike look even more like a racing machine.
